Cast and Bandage Care

  • A responsible adult should check the bandage/cast every day.
  • A slipped bandage/cast means a phone call to the vet for advice
  • A chewed bandage/cast means, if it is a bandage, remove it, but in the case of a cast, do not remove it. In either case, book in as soon as possible at the clinic for a replacement
  • A wet bandage/cast needs to be left alone, but an appointment made for replacement as soon as is practical
  • A bandage/cast that smells needs a cast change as soon as convenient
  • An unravelling bandage/cast needs repairing at home with duct tape or similar
  • An animal which likes to lick or chew at the cast/bandage need to have an Elizabethan collar or a bucket on their head

Please do not underestimate the damage a faulty bandage or cast can do. We would rather hear from you too often than not enough. If in doubt, ring us.
