Microchipping is a safe and permanent form of identification for your pet. Unlike collars and tags, microchips cannot be lost.
The microchip is approximately the size of a grain of rice, and is implanted between the shoulder blades by injection.
All stray animals which present to the pound, animal shelter or vet clinic are scanned to search for the presence of a microchip. If a microchip has been implanted, the pet can be reunited with their owner.
Returning lost animals to their owners can be extremely difficult if they are not microchipped. It is not unheard of for a cat to make its way into a delivery van and be miles away from home within minutes. In circumstances like these it is almost impossible to reunite beloved pets and owners. Even with the moggy from around the corner it is often impossible to find their worried owners.
All dogs and cats in Victoria must be implanted with a microchip by law.
